Stack Reheat Project
Great River Energy, Coal Creek Station
2016-2017
GRE contracted with ICI to install a stack reheat system in both units at Coal Creek Station to enable full scrubbing of the flue gas while maintaining a dry flue gas stream. Installation in Unit 2 began during the outage in spring of 2016, with Unit 1 starting that summer. ICI’s boilermakers installed more than 3,300 linear feet of large-dimension duct from the boiler to the scrubber, 14 butterfly dampers, 38 expansion joints, and 90 tons of support steel. Our ironworkers installed an additional 60 tons of reinforcing steel and removed and replaced more than 1,000 square feet of siding. ICI millwrights installed six induction fans capable of moving 80,000 cubic feet per minute and prepared them for commissioning.
